Pop Century vs. Art of Animation: Which Should You Choose?

When it comes to planning a Walt Disney World holiday, one of the biggest decisions is where to stay. Two of the most popular value resorts are Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. Both are fun, colourful, and offer Skyliner access (a huge perk!)—but which one is the better choice?

I’ve stayed at both so let’s break it down!

Why People Love Art of Animation

Art of Animation is definitely the more “Disney” of the two. The theming is immersive—you’ll find yourself walking through giant Little Mermaid statues, Cars-themed buildings, and Lion King murals. Kids especially adore it because it feels like you’re inside the movies.

The Big Blue Pool is the largest pool at Walt Disney World resorts, and it’s a real highlight. Plus, if you’re travelling with a larger group, the family suites are super convenient (and come with extra space and a kitchenette).

But here’s the catch—the regular rooms are a bit run down these days. With all the foot traffic Art of Animation gets, they feel more tired than Pop’s freshly refurbed ones. And the price tag? Definitely higher. Between being busier and more expensive, it’s not always the best value.

Why Pop Century is a Hidden Gem

Pop Century may not be as Disney-fied in its theming, but don’t let that put you off. The rooms here are fresher, brighter, and more spacious, thanks to recent refurbishments. The beds are comfy, the layout feels modern, and it’s so nice to have a little extra breathing room.

Another big plus? It’s cheaper than Art of Animation—and who doesn’t love saving a bit of cash when Disney trips already add up fast? Pop also tends to be a little quieter, making it a better choice if you’re looking to relax after a busy park day. And don’t forget about the newly refurbished food court, which makes grabbing a quick breakfast or late-night snack really easy.

What They Have in Common

Both resorts share one of my absolute favourite Disney perks: Skyliner access. This means you can hop on a ride and float your way over to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios. It’s not only convenient but also super fun—kind of like a ride before the rides!

My Pick: Pop Century

If you’re deciding between the two, I’d say Pop Century is the winner. You get a fresher room, a quieter atmosphere, and a cheaper price, while still enjoying Skyliner access and the Disney magic. The best part is because Art of Animation is just a walk away, you can go and explore the resort, without the price tag.

Art of Animation is great if you’ve got little ones who will light up at the larger-than-life Disney characters or if you need the space of a family suite. But for most people? Pop Century just makes more sense.

So save the extra money for Dole Whips, spirit jerseys, or that extra Lightning Lane—and book Pop!

So, if you’re leaning towards Pop Century (or even still tempted by Art of Animation!), I’d love to help you plan the perfect Disney trip. From choosing the right resort to sorting out tickets and extras, I can take the stress out of planning so all you have to do is count down the days until the magic begins. ✨
